LEVEL 1 WORKSHOPS
Orientation
A one-session introduction to what SATV membership is all about, including the benefits and responsibilities of membership. This is a mandatory workshop for all members.
Class Limit: Unlimited
Session length: 1 hour
Member Prerequisite: Membership form filled out and fees paid in full FREE for members- SATV member handbook provided with SATV statement of compliance and a blank program proposal.
After orientation members begin their SATV mediamaking experience by taking one of three workshops, level one Digital Field Production, level one Studio Production or Become a Crew Member. Members must fulfill prerequisites before registering for each workshop.
Digital Camera Certification
This class introduces you to SATV's super light and compact DV cameras and the ABC's of producing a program. Camera operation is fairly simple and straight forward, but the bells and whistles require some introduction.
Learn the basics of digital videography including creative angles and shot composition as well as what it takes to produce a program for cablecast at SATV, including how to apply for a time slot, how to make a program, production costs and rules/guidelines regulating the channel.
Upon completion of the class, members will be certified for camera usage to tape raw footage ready for editing.

Understanding Digital Video Editing
This class will cover the policies of non-linear editing at SATV and the producer's responsibility when using our equipment and editing software. Designed as a preparation for SATV's digital editing classes, Understanding Digital Video Editing will teach media producers the basic concepts, rules and regulations of non-linear editing at SATV. We will also de-mystify the present and future of video by examining current types of digital video editing systems and tape formats that SATV offers when using iMovie and FinalCut Pro. This class will discuss the transition from analog video to digital video, with regard to edit systems, cameras, and editing resources available at SATV.
Upon completion of the class, students can advance to a level II Digital Field Production Workshop for final certification.

Basic Studio Production
This class is designed for the media producer who needs the basic skills and knowledge to create your first studio production. Members learn how to produce, establish crew and direct your own TV program. The class includes the use of the cameras, audio equipment, video switcher, lighting and graphics, as well as instruction in producing, directing, hosting copyright issues and interviewing skills.
As part of the class, members will produce a program ready for cablecast on SATV. Upon completion, members will be certified and ready to reserve the studio for your own studio production.
Class Limit: 12 with no less than 3 to initiate
Session Length: Four 2 hour workshops
Member Prerequisite: orientation, completed program proposal

Linear Editing
Basic techniques of editing are covered when using the tape-to-tape method.
Class Limit: 3
Session Length: 4 hours (broken up into two 2 hour workshops)
Member Prerequisite: orientation, raw footage (on VHS tape) ready to edit into a program for cablecast.
Fee: FREE for members- booklet provided.
Technical Director
Learn how to be a Technical Director! Become an important part of any crew. This class will explain how the switcher we use works, including how the buses are arranged, signal flow, special-effects terminology and how to create fades, dissolves, wipes, superimpositions and many other special effects. Special attention will be given on how to use the switcher in SATV's studio control room.

Studio Graphics
Learn how to operate SATV's CG character generators in the studio and analog editing rooms. Create opening graphics, subtitles, and credits. Mix them in with live and taped programming and import customized graphic files.

Become a Camera Person
Learn the basic set-up and operation of studio cameras. Instruction includes basic camera direction, shot composition and pan/tilt operations.

Session Length: 2 hours
Member Prerequisite: orientation.

Lighting and Audio
Learn the basic set-up of lights and microphones. Instruction includes audio mixing board and lighting styles.
